French Jazz Manouche in Berlin: Thomas Dutronc in Concert
May 21st, 2014
News from Berlin - France’s swinging sixties most iconic couple is without a doubt Françoise Hardy and Thomas Dutronc. Both celebrated singers and composers, they also inspired an entire generation and left their mark not only on French music but also on art and fashion. While Jacques Dutronc iconically embodied the French swinging sixties rock, Françoise Hardy stood for more soft and sometimes melancholic ballads.
Thomas Dutronc, the couple’s son, while growing up was therefore for sure surrounded by the french swinging sixties musical and artistic influence. Yet, far from building on his parents’ success, Thomas Dutronc built up his own musical world, quoting on Django Rheinardt’s unique style to bring new light to the Jazz Manouche.
Since his first album ‘Comme un manouche sans guitare’ released in 2007, he experiences a new fusion between the classical features of the French chanson with Jazz manouche elements. In 2011 his second album ‘Silence on tourne, on tourne en rond’ builds on this previous experience, giving birth to an even more successfully completed blending.
For now, Thomas Dutronc tours in Europe to present his two opuses to the European Audience. On Friday May 23rd he will stop in Berlin at l’Impérial, Friedrichstraße 101, 10117 Berlin. The concert starts at 7.30pm and entrance is 27 euros.
