On Wednesday 4th November the French Embassy in Berlin will host a dialogue aimed at addressing ‘Parliament’s role between society and international climate and development policy’. The aim of the discussion is to bring Parliamentary representatives into the debate as the Parliament plays an essential role in implementing ambitious international policies on climate change.

The timing of this event is of importance as it comes after the recent adoption of the ‘Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development’ which occurred at the UN Summit in New York but before the important UN Climate Change Conference taking place in Paris in December this year. Progress made at this event therefore has the potential to influence the debate that takes place in Paris. The event has been organized by the French Embassy in collaboration with the German Development Institute. Also involved is the project Klimalog that aims to ‘promote knowledge and action-oriented exchange between policy makers and leaders from the fields of science, politics, civil society and business’ between different countries related to the global issue of climate change.

The event will be opened with an address from the French Ambassador to Germany, Jean-Claude Tribolet who will introduce the keynote speakers of the evening who are Mr Thomas Silberhorn who is the Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and Mr Antoine Michon, the head of environment and climate of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development. Six representatives from the Parliamentary groups of the German Bundestag will be in attendance for the panel discussion which will be followed by an opportunity for audience members to ask questions. There will also be the chance for discussion after the official event at the reception that will follow from 20:00. For more details please visit the French Embassy website.
