First-of-its-kind food-sharing event for the diplomatic corps in Vienna
IAEA Board of Governors participating MIKTA countries food-sharing event
June 11th, 2024On Tuesday 4 June, Ambassador of South Korea to Vienna HAM Sang Wook held a first-of-its-kind food-sharing event for the diplomatic corps in Vienna, together with the MIKTA countries (Mexico, Indonesia, Korea, Türkiye and Australia).
On the occasion of the June meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors, each MIKTA member offered meeting participants two iconic foods from their respective country. The Republic of Korea offered Yangnyeom-chiken, seasoned fried chicken, and Mandu, which have become popular worldwide thanks to influential K-dramas and K-movies. About 300 members of the diplomatic corps and personnel from the IAEA Secretariat attending the June BOG meeting participated in the event and enjoyed the culinary diversity and harmony of MIKTA, a cross-regional consultative platform. This first MIKTA food culture outreach event in Vienna served as an opportunity to promote the unity of MIKTA in the context of the Vienna-based organizations. As IAEA Board of Governors meetings sometimes continue until late at night due to the intensity of discussions over a number of controversial issues, this MIKTA food-sharing event was held to encourage the delegates attending the meeting and boost their energy during a break just before the evening session. The participants expressed their gratitude to the MIKTA countries, including the Republic of Korea. As the Vienna Spirit, which emphasises agreement through consensus, is weakening, the role of MIKTA, a cross-regional consultative platform which prioritizes strengthening multilateralism, is becoming more important. The Korean Permanent Mission plans to further strengthen the joint actions of MIKTA in Vienna.
