H.E. Ms. Heidi Schroderus-Fox
H.E. Heidi Schroderus-Fox is the Permanent Representative of Finland to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva. She presented her credentials to the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, Tatiana Valovaya, following her appointment.
Prior to her appointment in Geneva, Ms. Schroderus-Fox served as Director of the United Nations Office of the High Representative for Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS) from 2012. In this role, she worked on advancing international cooperation and advocacy for some of the world’s most vulnerable countries. From 2010 to 2011, she served as Head of Policy Issues at the Office of the President of the United Nations General Assembly.
Ms. Schroderus-Fox has extensive experience in multilateral diplomacy. She served as Deputy Permanent Representative of Finland to the United Nations in New York from 2006 to 2010 and joined Finland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1988. During her diplomatic career, she has served in Finnish missions in Paris, Washington D.C., Tel Aviv, Pretoria, and New York.
She holds a Master of Science degree in Economics and Business Administration and is an alumna of the executive programme of the Geneva Centre for Security Policy. She is married and has two children.
History
Finland became a member of the United Nations on 14 December 1955. Since joining the Organization, Finland has been an active supporter of multilateral cooperation, emphasizing international law, human rights, peace mediation, sustainable development, gender equality, and climate action.
The Permanent Mission of Finland to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva represents Finland’s interests within the Geneva-based multilateral system. The Mission works with a wide range of UN agencies and international organizations located in Geneva, including the Human Rights Council, the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Labour Organization (ILO), the World Trade Organization (WTO), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and other humanitarian and development organizations.
Finland has played an active role in UN peace and security efforts, including through contributions to UN peacekeeping and mediation initiatives. The country has also been a strong advocate for human rights and gender equality within the UN system, including through its longstanding support for the empowerment of women and girls and the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security agenda.
Finland has also placed particular emphasis on supporting vulnerable countries and addressing global inequalities. Through its engagement with UN processes, including those concerning Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States, Finland has promoted international partnerships aimed at advancing sustainable development and resilience.
Through its Geneva Mission, Finland continues to participate in multilateral negotiations and discussions on human rights, humanitarian affairs, health, labour standards, trade, disarmament, and sustainable development, reflecting its commitment to a rules-based international order and effective global cooperation.
