The Embassy of Finland in Berlin and the press office of the German President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, have publicly announced that Finland will be the partner country of this year’s “Bürgerfest”.

The ‘Bürgerfest” is an annual event hosted by the German President that aims to acknowledge the significance of volunteer work for a lively and strong civil society. This year, the “Bürgerfest” will take place from August 30th to August 31st at “Schloss Bellevue”, the official residence of the German President, as well as in the adjoining park grounds.

On August 30th, the first day of the event, Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Büdenbender will greet voluntary workers from all across Germany and thank and honor them for their important civic engagement.

On August 31st, the second day of the event, all interested citizens are invited to visit “Schloss Bellevue”, and to learn more about the civic engagement programs of the organizations and companies represented at the “Bürgerfest”.

Finland, as the official partner country of the “Bürgerfest” 2019, together with the federal German state of Nordrhein-Westfalen as the second partner of the event, will offer typical Finnish food and represent Finnish culture and traditions. With its on-site presence at the “Bürgerfest” as the official partner country of the annual event, Finland has the opportunity to promote intercultural understanding and amicable relations between Germany and Finland and thereby contribute to the spread of cultural diplomacy.
