Fifty Years of European Cooperation in Space

News from Berlin - 2014 represents an important anniversary for the ESA (European Space Agency) and its member states. They are going to celebrate 50 years of cooperation in the aerospace industry.
Today, 19th May, there is the ceremonial act at the German Historical Museum in Berlin. Numerous representatives of politics and the aerospace industry of the ESA-countries will participate in the event, which is consecrating a strategic alliance for technology and innovation.
The celebrations will continue tomorrow, till the 25th May, since they coincide with the ILA, the Berlin Air and Space Show. At the space pavilion in Hall 8, the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy, the DLR German Aerospace Center and the German Aerospace Industries Association are going to present the latest projects and innovation of ESA, as well as the German national programs.
During the show ESA will present to the public its launches, operating at the Europe Spaceport of French Guiana and its telecom satellite, Alphasat, which is the most sophisticated ever built in Europe. Another important innovation is Proba-V, the latest project for Onboard Autonomy Satellite.
The mission of ESA is to assure technological growth and new markets for all the countries involved in this key strategic sector. “Investing in space is investing in competitiveness and growth through knowledge, innovation and services”, stated Jean-Jacques Dordain, Director General of ESA.
