Festival des Francophonies Hosted by the French Embassy and Institut Français in Berlin
A Celebration of Francophone Culture

From September 22 to 24, 2024, the Embassy of France and the Institut Français of Germany, in partnership with the Centre Français de Berlin and the Cité Internationale de la Langue Française, will host the Festival des Francophonies in Berlin. This event, part of the official international program of the XIXe Sommet de la Francophonie, brings together diverse Francophone cultures and communities.
In its first-ever off-site residence, the Cité Internationale de la Langue Française will lead three days of festivities celebrating the French language in Berlin. The event promises an inclusive and diverse program, featuring artists from all backgrounds to strengthen Franco-German ties through contemporary language and literature. The festival offers a variety of activities, from humor and debates to readings, concerts, and performances, alongside educational workshops for students and teachers.
The festival will kick off on September 22 at the Centre Français de Berlin with a night of Francophone humor featuring Mahaut Drama, the Montreux Comedy Festival, and the Baguette Comedy Club. On September 23, the Institut Français de Berlin will host a debate titled "Le français, une langue monde dans un monde de langues," featuring prominent figures like Barbara Cassin, member of the Académie Française, Edith Antoinette Itoua, Ambassador of the Republic of Congo to Germany, and other intellectuals and artists. The festival will conclude on September 24 with a "Proses"concert, combining rap and classical music by artist Vicky R and a Berlin string quartet, followed by a literary promenade.
A key educational component will include online and in-person workshops for teachers and students, along with a photography contest highlighting the global diversity of the French language. This year-long initiative is part of a broader celebration of Francophone culture, leading up to the historic Sommet de la Francophonie hosted in France.
Throughout 2024, the French Embassy in Berlin, co-presiding the group of Francophone embassies with the Republic of Congo, has championed a range of cultural initiatives. From March’s Terre de Jeux relay to May’s Fête des Francophonies and the upcoming Semaine du Film Français et Francophone in November, these efforts highlight the diversity and richness of Francophone cultures in Germany.
