Ethiopia at the Petersberg Climate Dialogue (PCD) 2025
A new approach to address the climate change challenge
April 03rd, 2025On 25 and 26 Match, the 16th Petersberg Climate Dialogue took place in Berlin, a yearly recurrence organized by the German Government in the lead-up to the COP climate conference.
This event hosted by Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and COP President-Designate André Corrêa do Lago brought together ministers from more than 40 countries to discuss strategies for global climate action.
As stated by Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, this event aimed to "pave the way for COP30 in Belém and to support the Brazilian COP Presidency with their ambitious goals".
Representing the Ethiopia government, H.E. Dr. Fitsum Assefa attended the event as representative of the Government of Ethiopia, highlighting the leading role of the country in the African continent in the climate change politics. He also reaffirmed Ethiopia's commitment by highlighting its role as the host the 2nd Africa Climate Summit.
During the last few years, Ethiopia launched many initiatives regarding climate change. Among them is the Green Legacy Initiative, first launched in June 2019. This program is a multifaceted response to the impacts of climate change and environmental degradation that approach multiple sectors of the economy.
As highlighted during the Petersberg Climate Dialogue, Ethiopia's commitment to finding new approaches to address climate change is remarkable. Through these efforts, the country positions itself as a key player in the international community and a respected example for others to follow.
