EQUAL GROOVE – Gender Equality in the Jazz Scene: A German-Danish Exchange
Discussing gender inequalities in the jazz industry at the Denmakr Embassy
April 03rd, 2025On April 4th, the Nordische Botschaften (Embassies of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden) will host Equal Groove – Gender Equality in the Jazz Scene: A German-Danish Exchange, an event dedicated to exploring the role of women in the jazz industry and the challenges they continue to face.
The discussion is part of jazzahead!, one of the most significant international trade fairs for the jazz sector. Every year, the jazzahead! event brings together musicians, business people and cultural leader from all over the world, offering a platform for networking, creative exchange, and in-depth discussions on the current status of jazz.
Organized by the Danish Embassy, Equal Groove programme will focus on the persistent gender inequalities within the jazz industry. In contrast to their male counterparts, female jazz artist have to encounter several challenges, such as lack of representation and career prospect. The conversation will focus on the circumstances in Germany and Denmark, offering a comparative perspective on the advancements and remaining gaps in gender equality within these two countries.
The event will feature a panel of distinguished female musicians and industry figures who have made significant contributions to jazz. Among the speakers are Agnete Seerup, Mia Knop Jacobsen, Anne Mette Iversen, and Fabia Mantwill—renowned artists whose experiences and insights will provide valuable perspectives on the state of gender equality in jazz.
Through this exchange, Equal Groove main goal is to raise awareness and inspire concrete action towards a more inclusive jazz industry.
