Embassy of Turkmenistan in Austria Commemorates 30 Years of Neutrality and 34 Years of Independence
Event celebrates Turkmen-Austrian friendship and commitment to peace, dialogue, and cultural exchange

On the 1st of October in 2025, a cultural and diplomatic event marking the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality and the 34th anniversary of its independence took place at the Grand Hotel Wien. The event was organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Austria with the support of the Turkmen-Austrian Society, bringing together over 250 guests — including ambassadors accredited in Austria, permanent representatives to international organizations, officials from Austrian ministries, business leaders, Turkmen students, and media outlets.
In his address, Ambassador Hemra Amannazarov emphasized Turkmenistan’s consistent commitment to the principles of neutrality, peace, and constructive international dialogue. He noted the country’s efforts to strengthen global trust and promote sustainable development and highlighted the recent meeting between President Berdimuhamedov and Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen in New York during the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, describing it as a milestone in bilateral cooperation. He further announced that an International Forum on Neutrality will be held in Ashgabat in December 2025, inviting attendees to participate.
Ambassador Maximilian Hennig, Chief of Protocol of the Austrian Federal Ministry of European and International Affairs, commended the long-standing and friendly relations between Austria and Turkmenistan, grounded in mutual respect. Furthermore, Dr. Neda Berger, President of the Turkmen-Austrian Society, underlined the shared principle of neutrality linking the two nations, noting that Austria celebrates the 70th anniversary of its neutrality this October.
The evening ended with a musical performance by Turkmen artists, an exhibition of traditional arts and crafts, and a presentation of national cuisine, symbolizing the spirit of cooperation that unites Turkmenistan and Austria.
