Ambassador of Tunisia met Mayor of Essen to strengthen bilateral cooperation
March 11th, 2026On 4 March 2026, the Ambassador of Tunisia to Germany received Mr. Thomas Kufen, Mayor of Essen, at the headquarters of the Embassy of the Republic of Tunisia in Berlin. The meeting took place in the context of ongoing efforts to further strengthen relations of friendship and cooperation between Tunisia and the German municipality.
During the meeting, the Ambassador expressed his sincere appreciation for the initiatives undertaken by Mayor Kufen to promote and reinforce relations with Tunisia. In particular, he acknowledged the Mayor’s continued support for Tunisian cultural and economic activities, which contribute to fostering stronger ties and mutual understanding between the two sides.
The discussions also focused on upcoming opportunities for cooperation. In this regard, both parties agreed to intensify their joint efforts to ensure the success of the Tunisian-German Economic Forum, which is scheduled to take place in Essen in October 2026. The forum will be organised in cooperation with the Consulate General of Tunisia in Düsseldorf and is expected to further promote economic exchange and dialogue between Tunisian and German partners.
On this occasion, Mr. Thomas Kufen praised the Tunisian community residing in Essen, highlighting its positive integration into German society. He also emphasised the community’s active and valued contribution to the cultural and economic life of the region, which continues to strengthen the links between Tunisia and the city of Essen.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of both sides to further developing cooperation and strengthening the longstanding ties between Tunisia and the city of Essen. Continued dialogue and joint initiatives in cultural and economic fields contribute to deeper mutual understanding and reflect the important role of cultural diplomacy.
