On 4 September 2025, a delegation from the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy (ICD) — composed of Clara Paolino, Diego Cendón and Luisa Silva — had the privilege of attending the vernissage of Deidades Itinerantes by Peruvian artist Ignacio Poblet. Hosted in the María Reiche Hall, the opening event took place at 18:00 and marked the beginning of a three-week exhibition running until September 26.

The event gathered a vibrant audience of artists, art enthusiasts, diplomats and cultural representatives, including the Ambassador of Peru. Guests were also treated to a taste of Peruvian gastronomy, which complemented the evening’s atmosphere and reinforced the cultural experience.

The inauguration began with a brief speech by the Peruvian Ambassador, followed by remarks from Poblet himself. The artist spoke about his work as a bridge between ancestral heritage and contemporary visual languages, emphasizing how his art seeks to project Peruvian identity onto the global stage.

In his own words: “If you were in Lima you would understand what I’m talking about.” With this statement, Poblet highlighted the unique dynamics faced by Latin American cities under the pressures of globalization, and how these transformations are mirrored in their urban landscapes. He noted that while some may perceive his art as naïve or exotic, those familiar with Lima’s energy immediately grasp the authenticity and depth of his visual narratives.

The multiplicity of forms and symbols in Poblet’s works reveals a dialogue with ancestral traditions while simultaneously engaging with modern artistic expressions. His canvases invite viewers to reflect on continuity and change, spirituality and modernity, the local and the universal.

The ICD delegation had the honor of engaging in a brief conversation with Poblet, who shared more about his creative process and the inspiration behind his work. His approach — layering memory, myth and observation — offers audiences not only aesthetic pleasure but also a profound cultural reflection.

Deidades Itinerantes is an exhibition that should not be missed. It is an invitation to experience the richness of Peruvian identity and culture, while witnessing how art can travel across borders.
