History
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Macedonia and the German Federal Republic were established on December 16th 1993. Their relationship is characterized by an intensive political dialogue and co-operation in all areas. There have been numerous visits at the highest level, as well as the regular meetings between the parliaments of both countries. Germany acts as one of Macedonia’s most significant trade partners.
In addition to Macedonia's embassy in Berlin, Macedonia has 6 other representations in Germany. These representations include consulates in Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Mainz, Munich, and Nuremberg.
Germany’s numerous cooperation programs and projects with the government and civil society in Macedonia – for example, through the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ) and the Forum Civil Peace Service (ZfD) – have strengthened its reputation as a reliable partner. The Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation both have their own offices in Skopje.
