On October 16, 2025, the Embassy of Denmark in Berlin opened “A Common Room in a Changing World,” an exhibition showcasing Danish community life and civic participation. Presented as part of the Danish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the exhibition invites visitors to experience how Danish society encourages dialogue, collaboration, and shared activities.

The exhibition offers a variety of interactive workshops, including music, debate, urban planning, and creative activities such as cooking and crafting. Visitors can join communal meals, discussions, and performances, creating opportunities to meet others, share ideas, and engage directly with Danish cultural practices. From political festivals like Folkemøder to youth centers and folk high schools, the exhibition highlights spaces where Danes come together to learn, debate, and celebrate community. Through these activities, Berlin audiences can explore how openness, participation, and creativity shape Danish society—offering inspiration for connection and engagement in everyday life.

Visitors can also attend scheduled workshops and performances, including music events, sustainability discussions, and urban planning activities, each designed to encourage hands-on participation. The program is structured to engage participants of all ages, promoting understanding of how community-driven initiatives function in Denmark and encouraging attendees to reflect on their own role within local and European communities.

Through this exhibition, the Embassy of Denmark demonstrates how culture can act as a tool of cultural diplomacy, fostering dialogue across borders and strengthening values essential to democratic societies. By bringing Danish approaches to civic engagement, community building, and creative collaboration to Berlin, the initiative highlights how cultural activities—whether music, debates, or workshops—can support the exchange of ideas, promote solidarity, and encourage active participation. In this way, the exhibition not only showcases Danish culture but also underscores the potential of cultural initiatives to promote democracy, inclusivity, and community cohesion at the heart of Europe.
