Embassy of Croatia in Berlin presented Dijana Nazor Čorda’s exhibition
March 30th, 2026On Wednesday, 25 March 2026, the exhibition “Light Eggs with the Imprint of Heritage” by artist Dr. art. Dijana Nazor Čorda from Zagreb was opened at the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Berlin. The exhibition was realised with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Berlin and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia.
The exhibition was opened by the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia in Berlin, Gordan Bakota, who underlined in his address the close connection between Croatian cultural heritage and Easter, the most important Christian feast, which is deeply rooted in the cultural identity of the Croatian people. The artist, Dijana Nazor Čorda, also spoke about the exhibition, its development, and its artistic cycles.
The exhibition presents forty ceramic Easter eggs, thirty of which are illuminated with coloured light, while some of the works are painted with engobe and acrylic. The Easter eggs were made of chamotte white clay and terracotta and were created over the period from 2009 to 2026. Also on display are new works inspired by Croatian traditional culture, including motifs of lace from Lepoglava, Hvar, and Pag, as well as the Glagolitic script.
A distinctive group of works consists of pieces created using infrared technology, through which an additional hidden figurative image becomes visible beneath the visible surface of the Easter egg with the aid of an IR camera. The uniqueness of these illuminated Easter eggs is reflected not only in their perforations and motifs inspired by early Christian tradition, but also in the artist’s treatment of the light bulbs placed inside them in various colours characteristic of traditional Easter eggs. In her works, the artist also explores the use of floral elements from old Croatian interlace ornamentation and other ornamental traditions, while also incorporating bird motifs inspired by pre-Romanesque decoration of architectural elements and church furnishings.
The accompanying part of the exhibition includes twelve artistic photographs depicting each perforated unique Easter egg in different light variations. The exhibition offers a presentation of artistic expression deeply inspired by Croatian heritage and its traditional cultural motifs.
