Embassy of Canada to Austria Co-Organises Women in Science Panel at the Austrian Academy of Sciences
Diplomatic missions host Women in Science panel highlighting women shaping green innovation
March 13th, 2026On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2026, the Embassy of Canada to Austria contributed to the organisation of a “Women in Science” panel at the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW). The event brought together leading scientists, researchers, policymakers and representatives from industry to highlight the important role of women in advancing green and digital innovation.
The international expert panel, titled “Women in Science: Breaking Frontiers – (Em)Powering the Green and Digital Transitions,” was organised jointly by the diplomatic missions of Canada, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. The discussion placed a particular focus on women who are actively shaping the future of science and technology. At a time of significant environmental and digital transformation, participants emphasised that women’s leadership remains essential in developing sustainable, inclusive and forward-looking solutions.
The organisers expressed their appreciation to Federal Minister Eva-Maria Holzleitner of the Federal Ministry for Women, Science and Research for her inspiring video message. Thanks were also extended to Mag. Hubertus Schmid-Schmidsfelden for the warm welcome at the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
Further recognition was given to moderator Alice Barbora Tumpach and to the panelists Maria Cristina Fossi, Emma Boland, Lauriane Mouysset, Alice Vadrot, Hanna Sands, Dr. Anaïs Sägesser, Emily Missyabit McAuley, Ph.D., Elena Lopez Gunn and Anne-Kathrin Bedoy of L'Oréal, whose contributions enriched the discussion through their expertise and perspectives.
The panel concluded with a clear message to women and girls considering careers in science: their voices, ideas and curiosity are needed, and their participation remains vital to the advancement of scientific knowledge. Initiatives of this kind highlight the value of international cooperation and dialogue in supporting equality in science and strengthening cultural diplomacy.
