The ICD Academy for Cultural Diplomacy hosted the El Salvador Session during the Berlin Economic Forum 2026, held in Potsdam from 3–5 March 2026. The session formed part of the wider forum organized under the auspices of the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy, which brings together policymakers, diplomats, and institutional leaders to explore opportunities for international cooperation. The event provided a platform to examine El Salvador’s engagement with European partners and to highlight prospects for economic, cultural and diplomatic collaboration.

The session featured a keynote address by Florencia Eugenia Vilanova de von Oehsen, Ambassador of El Salvador to Germany. In her remarks, the Ambassador outlined El Salvador’s priorities for strengthening international partnerships and expanding engagement with European institutions and investors. She highlighted the country’s efforts to encourage cooperation across multiple sectors, including economic development, cultural exchange, and international dialogue.

Participants in the session discussed opportunities for expanding bilateral and multilateral collaboration, particularly in areas where economic development and cultural exchange intersect. The dialogue reflected growing interest in strengthening connections between Central America and Europe, emphasizing how diplomatic engagement can support sustainable development, trade opportunities, and broader international cooperation. Such exchanges also help foster mutual understanding between societies and encourage long-term institutional partnerships.

The session further illustrated the role of cultural diplomacy as a tool for deepening international relationships beyond traditional political dialogue. By presenting national priorities and cultural perspectives in multilateral forums such as the Berlin Economic Forum, states can strengthen their global presence while building networks that support economic and diplomatic engagement. In this context, El Salvador’s participation highlighted the importance of platforms that facilitate dialogue between Latin American and European stakeholders.

In conclusion, the El Salvador Session at the Berlin Economic Forum 2026 underscored the importance of sustained diplomatic dialogue in advancing economic cooperation and cultural exchange. The discussions reinforced the value of multilateral forums in strengthening ties between El Salvador, Germany, and the broader international community, while laying the groundwork for future partnerships that contribute to shared economic and cultural development.
