Minister of Foreign Affairs

José Samuel Valencia Amores is a lawyer, diplomat, professor and currently a Minister of Foreign Affairs. He has a degree in Legal Sciences and a Jurisprudence degree from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Quito, Faculty of Jurisprudence.

He has also completed postgraduate studies at Harvard (Political Science) and Columbia University.

He has been a public servant in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held several positions as chief of staff in the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Undersecretary of Political Affairs. He was also Director (e) of the United Nations Department, Chief of the Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, General Director of Human Rights and General Director of Multilateral Policy.

He was also Ambassador of Ecuador in South Africa, Permanent Representative of Ecuador to the OAS, official of the permanent mission in Geneva and coordinator for the Presidency and Pro Tempore Secretariat of the Andean Community.

He has been a professor at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Quito, at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Quito and at the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences, FLACSO.
