Dutch Embassy Joins #HafenFan Campaign in Germany
The Netherlands shows support for the #HafenFan campaign

On Saturday, May 31, 2025, the multicultural festival Babylon Europa returned to ufaFabrik in Berlin, offering an energetic celebration of European art, performance, and cultural exchange. The event was organized by EUNIC Berlin, a network that includes the Austrian Cultural Forum, Institut français, Istituto Italiano di Cultura, and other national cultural institutes.
#HafenFan (“Ports Fan”) is an awareness campaign launched by Germany’s inland ports association (“Bundesverband der Deutschen Binnenschifffahrt e.V.”) and Hafen Trier, together with the operators of the Trier inland port (“Trierer Hafengesellschaft mbH”). It aims to showcase the strategic importance of inland ports as logistics keystones and economic centers for the future.
The Dutch Embassy in Berlin demonstrated its support by acknowledging that ports are “vital hubs driving the transformation towards a digital and sustainable industry and economy.” The Netherlands benefits from the Port of Rotterdam, known as Europe’s main gateway for goods arriving from all continents, handling over 430 million tonnes of cargo annually.
The Embassy places high importance on the logistics sector, as reflected in its Infrastructure and Water Management Department. Its dynamic port hubs connect the Netherlands to Germany via the Rhine-Alpine Corridor, including key ports such as Duisport – Duisburger Hafen AG in Germany’s Ruhr region.
This participation by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the #HafenFan campaign is expected to deepen bilateral relations, especially by fostering cooperation in developing sustainable transport and promoting a beneficial trickle-down effect on the regional economy.
