Mohamoud Ali Youssouf
Minister of Foreign Affairs
Mohamoud Ali Youssouf was born on September 2nd, 1965 in Djibouti, Djibouti. He has served the Republic of Djibouti as minister of foreign affairs since 2005.
Ali Youssouf studied linguistics, business, and management in Lyon, France, Liverpool, United Kingdom, and Laval, France before writing his thesis at the Free University of Brussels in the 1990’s. Between 1992 and 1997, while still a student, Ali Youssouf was the head of Arab affairs within the Foreign Ministry in Djibouti. In 1997 he took a job as Ambassador to Egypt until 2001 when he returned to Djibouti and was appointed minister delegate for international cooperation. He retained this position until May 22nd, 2005 when was given the job as minister of foreign affairs. He has since retained this position although the president has changed three times. He is an independent politician and is considered an optimist regarding Djibouti’s future.
