On Thursday, April 10, 2025, at 12:00 pm, the Bundesrat hosted a high-level diplomatic meeting between Germany and Spain. The President of the German upper house of Parliament, Anke Rehlinger, officially welcomed the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain, Pascual Navarro Ríos, at the Federal Council headquarters located at Leipziger Straße 3-4, Berlin.

During the meeting, both authorities engaged in discussions focused on the bilateral relations between Spain and Germany, as reported by the official Bundesrat website. Although the meeting was not open to the press, the visit underscores the mutual commitment to strengthening political and cooperative ties between the two countries, especially in the current European and international context.

Pascual Navarro Ríos has served as Spain's Ambassador to Germany since March 2024, following a distinguished diplomatic career that includes roles such as the Secretary of State for the European Union. Anke Rehlinger, currently the Minister-President of Saarland, assumed the presidency of the Bundesrat in November 2024, representing the federal body at both national and international levels.

Beyond political dialogue, Spain and Germany's relationship is also characterized by its deep cultural dimension. According to the Federal Foreign Office, "Spain is an important bilateral and multilateral partner to Germany, and there is a broad overlap in the convictions and fundamental values underpinning the two countries’ foreign policy." Both countries also promote initiatives and programs that strengthen their commitment to cultural and educational exchange.

Such institutional meetings not only enhance bilateral cooperation but also highlight the importance of diplomatic dialogue as a key tool for a more united Europe.
