Food diplomacy initiatives are increasingly being recognized as a successful means to open up peaceful dialogue.

What is distinctive about food, indeed, is its distinguishing capacity to bond people to one another by sharing what is on the table.

Bearing this in mind, the Chinese Embassy in Berlin organizes a cooking class to learn how to make traditional Chinese food. Through this practice, the Embassy hopes to encourage all the participants to enhance exchange and interaction among different communities, helping to reduce stereotypes and misinformed narratives on a particular part of the world.

The class will take place on the 2nd of July, from 15:00 to 17:00. The people who will come to the event will have the chance to eat together and thus create a natural and positive effect on their relationship. Moreover, the practice of preparing dishes together allows all sectors of the community to have an input in discussion which can lead to the exchange of ideas, values, traditions and other aspects of cultural diversity.

It is worth to pointing out that the globalized market has enabled the import and export of products from all areas of the globe. As a consequence, it is more easier than ever to introduce food from another country into our homes and, by doing so, have access to other cultures. Moreover, meals are an everyday presence in our lives, as well as the easiest routes towards understanding and cross-cultural awareness.

The initiative of the Chinese Embassy is therefore a priceless occasion to establish a firm interchange of traditions, religions and ethnicities in one of the most multicultural cities in the world.
