On July 3, the four institutions of the Berlin University Alliance (BUA)—Humboldt-Universität, Freie Universität, Technische Universität, and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin—hosted their fourth annual networking reception, bringing together Brazilian students and scholars alongside BUA researchers engaged in collaborations with Brazilian partners

From 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm, the reception provided a vibrant space for dialogue and networking. Attendees explored information stands from Berlin’s Excellence Clusters, the German Research Foundation (DFG), and Apoena, the network of Brazilian researchers in Germany.

The event was officially opened by Paulo Gustavo Iansen de Sant'Ana, Minister-Counselor at the Brazilian Embassy, who emphasized the importance of fostering stronger academic and cultural ties between the two countries. Representatives from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the German Academic Exchange Service, and the DFG were also present, sharing insights on funding opportunities and programs designed to promote joint research initiatives.

The four BUA institutions have long-standing collaborations with Brazilian universities and research centers. Freie Universität Berlin has operated a liaison office in São Paulo since 2010, supporting exchanges and research partnerships through the German Centre for Research and Innovation.

Technische Universität Berlin and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin also support the DWIH, enhancing the visibility of Berlin-based research initiatives in Brazil. Charité continues to lead joint medical and scientific projects, including a renowned collaboration with Universidade de São Paulo, which offers student exchange opportunities and joint research ventures.

The networking event at the Brazilian Embassy reinforces the commitment of both countries to advancing science, education and cultural exchange. As the event continues to grow in reach and relevance, it stands as a model of academic diplomacy.
