To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the sister-city arrangement between Berlin and Buenos Aires, Argentina will be the focus of this year’s PHIL HARMONIKA festival.

The PHIL HARMONIKA festival 2019th will be held under the auspices of the Embassy of Argentina, together with the Berlin Senator for culture and Europe, Dr. Klaus Lederer.

One of the notable events of this year’s PHIL HARMONIKA festival will be the gala concert on May 19th. At the concert, Omar Massa, the famous bandoneon artist from Buenos Aires, will present Argentine music in an elaborate program with other musicians such as Vitaliy Schall, Julius Schwahn und Pavlin Nechev, and with the string orchestra of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

The gala concert will exclusively feature the premiere of Massa’s “Concert for Bandoneon, Piano, and String Orchestra”. Massa composed the musical piece specifically for the PHIL HARMONIKA festival 2019. It is meant to represent the close connection between the cities of Berlin and Buenos Aires.

The gala concert will take place at Berliner Philharmonie on Sunday, May 19th at 18:00.

Other events that are part of the PHIL HARMONIKA festival 2019 and that focus on Argentina and Argentine music are the concert “Argentina in Zehlendorf” at Paulus-Kirche on April 5th, and a masterclass on Astor Piazzolla’s music with Omar Massa at the Argentine Embassy on May 18th at 10:30 am.

Tickets for the concerts are available through Eventim. A registration for the masterclass with Omar Massa is possible until May 10th under fleischhauer@pantonale.com. The fee for active participation in the masterclass is 40€; passive participation is available for 20€.
