Canadian National Security Programme Engages German Experts in Berlin
High-level discussions on security cooperation, hybrid threats, and defence innovation
February 06th, 2026The Embassy of Canada in Berlin hosted a dynamic day of exchange as part of the Canadian National Security Programme of the Canadian Forces College. The programme brought together leading German experts from academia, politics, and industry for in-depth discussions on national and international security issues.
The event was opened by Ambassador Vera Alexander, with the first panel moderated by Deputy Head of Mission Evelyne Coulombe. Panel One focused on Germany’s security relationships, with contributions from Dr. Claudia Major, Dr. Pia Fuhrhop, and Roderich Kiesewetter, MdB. The discussion examined Germany’s evolving security posture and its relations with the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada.
Panel Two addressed hybrid threats in Europe. Mischa Hansel, Anna Daun, and Carolin Jameson explored challenges related to hybrid threats and disinformation, emphasizing the importance of strengthening security structures and enhancing strategic communication.
The third panel highlighted industry perspectives. Karsten Lepper and Patrick Courcelles discussed NATO defence spending, initiatives such as Readiness 2030 and SAFE, and the impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine on defence innovation and industrial adaptation.
