On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at 6:00 pm, the Embassy of Canada to Germany will host a special reading and discussion with award-winning Canadian author John Vaillant, featuring his latest book, "Fire Weather." The event will take place at Leipziger Platz 17, Berlin, with doors opening at 5:30 pm. In his gripping book, Vaillant explores the devastating wildfire that overtook Fort McMurray in 2016, a disaster that serves as a stark warning about the increasing dangers of a warming and more flammable planet.

Following the reading, Vaillant will join a moderated discussion with Mary Hellmich, an International Climate Change Consultant, and engage in a conversation with Loyle Campbell, a Research Fellow from the German Council on Foreign Relations. The discussion will delve into the wider implications of climate change and the relationship between wildfires and humanity’s reliance on the oil industry. The evening will conclude with a reception, allowing attendees to further discuss the themes explored. Admission is free, but registration is required, and all attendees must present valid ID for security purposes.
