Canada at the 25th International Literature Festival Berlin
Celebrating Canadian voices through contemporary fiction and youth literature
August 26th, 2025Canada will be strongly represented at this year’s 25th International Literature Festival Berlin, taking place from September 11 to 24, 2025. Known as one of the most important global gatherings of writers, thinkers and readers, the festival annually brings together authors from all continents to engage in dialogue around literature, politics and culture.
This year, Canadian literature takes center stage through a selection of authors supported by the Embassy of Canada in Germany, each presenting distinctive contributions to contemporary writing.
On September 13 at 14:00 and September 14 at 09:30, illustrator and storyteller Sid Sharp presents Moor Myrte und das Zauberholz (“Moor Myrte and the Enchanted Wood”), a richly imaginative narrative accompanied by striking illustrations. Sharp’s artistry merges visual and literary creativity, enchanting young readers.
On September 17 at 19:30, novelist Kev Lambert will present his book Möge uns die Freude bleiben (“May Joy Remain With Us”). Lambert’s sharp prose and bold voice have positioned him as one of the most compelling figures in Canadian literature today.
Meanwhile, on September 18 and 19 at 09:30, Kim Spencer introduces Weird Rules – So wie ich bin, a coming-of-age story that captures the complexities of identity, belonging, and self-acceptance. Spencer’s work resonates deeply with teenagers navigating questions of cultural heritage and personal growth.
Beyond individual readings, Canada’s participation underscores its commitment to fostering intercultural dialogue and promoting the diversity of its literary voices abroad. By highlighting authors who address themes of identity, imagination, and resilience, the Embassy of Canada reaffirms literature’s role as a bridge across cultures.
