On 24 June 2025, the Cambodian Ambassador, Chheang Thyra, participated in the “Reisen mit dem diplomatischen Korps” (Travel with the Diplomatic Corps) to the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. This event was hosted by the President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier, with the support of Minister-President Manuela Schwesig.

The annual “Travel with the Diplomatic Corps” is a long-standing tradition, bringing together ambassadors accredited to Germany and representatives of international organizations. The objective is to present the diversity of regions within Germany to foreign diplomats. Ambassador Chheang Thyra had the opportunity to explore the industrial, historical, and cultural landscape of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, while fostering bilateral and multilateral diplomatic relations.

The visit began at the Mecklenburger Metallguss GmbH factory, known for the production of ship propellers. This was followed by a lunch at Ulrichshusen Castle, hosted by Minister-President Schwesig. In the afternoon, a cruise was held through the port of Rostock to Warnemünde. The Federal President then invited the guests to a reception on the German Navy training ship, the "Gorch Fock", a floating ambassador for Germany symbolizing its naval tradition and discipline.

These annual information and exchange trips with heads of mission from the diplomatic corps and international organizations are a long-standing German tradition for Federal Presidents since 1996.

The initiative promotes mutual understanding through cultural exchange and helps deepen diplomats’ appreciation of Germany’s regional identity. The participation of Ambassador Thyra underscores Cambodia’s active engagement with Germany’s diplomatic initiatives and highlights the broader importance of intercultural exchange in international relations.
