Burkina Faso ambassador honors cultural unity at European Theatre Festival
European Theatre Festival showcases cultural exchange with Burkinabe and European artists’ performance
November 18th, 2024On October 9, 2024, the European Theatre Festival in Austria, welcomed H.E. Maïmounata Ouattara, Permanent Representative of Burkina Faso to Vienna, marking a significant moment for cross-cultural engagement. The ambassador, accompanied by her team, attended the premiere of "Inbox/Salt & Columns," a collaborative theatrical production spotlighting Burkinabe and European artists.
This innovative theatrical production featured Burkinabe artists Sidiki Yougbare, Justin Ouindiga, and GSK Nabaloum performing alongside Austrian and German talents, including Thiemo Strutzenberger, Polina Solotowski, and DeeLinde. The project is part of the "Declining Arts, Culture, and Politics in Europe and Africa" initiative, which involves Burkina Faso's Village Opera platform.
The performance posed the central question, "How can cultures engage in dialogue during times of crisis?" Addressing this, the production aims to transcend cultural barriers, confront historical misunderstandings, and foster genuine exchanges. Texts by Sidiki Yougbare and Thiemo Strutzenberger, developed during a writers' residency, added depth to this intercultural dialogue.
Scheduled for future presentations in Norway and Burkina Faso, the project demonstrates how art can bridge continents and create meaningful conversations about shared humanity.
