Brazilian Embassy in Berlin Presents a Workshop with Elcio Cafaro
A unique opportunity to learn from spectacular Brazilian drummer and musician Elcio Cafaro
August 17th, 2016Elcio Cafaro, world famous Brazilian musician and drummer, will show you his unique and spectacular musical abilities at Global Music Academy Berlin.
The Brazilian drummer Elcio Cafaro has some unique techniques, groovy appearance and during his career he joined many big names of the Latin American jet set, including Chico Buarque, Roberta Sá or Cassia Eller, with whom Cafaro recorded his first two albums, from 1990 and 1996.
Cafaro will share with the audience his experience and techniques with different Brazilian instruments. People attending the event will learn different Brazilian rhythms such as Carnival, Samba, Frevo, Maracatu or Forró. In the workshop, he will help to master the art of Bossa Nova, showing the differences between the Brazilian and original jazz.
Cafaro participated with Roberta Sá at an event called “Brazil Selection” in the city of Cologne during the 2006 World Cup. Internationally, he had a European tour with the guitarist Daniel Marques in 2010, and played once more with Roberta Sá at the World Expo in Shanghai on July 2010.
The Brazilian jazz that Elcio Cafaro represents is a music genre largely influenced by bossa nova. This usually reminds of traditional Latin jazz, but, in the contrary to that, it is more “nationalistic” – combining jazz with traditional Brazilian styles. The origin of the Brazilian jazz comes originally from Brazilian (usually bossa nova) musicians who got influenced in the USA during their travels.
The workshop is suitable for beginners as well as professional musicians, teachers or students. It will take place on August 23, 2016 at Global Music Academy Berlin.
