On December 2nd, 2024, Brazil officially became the 48th member of the Eureka Network, an international organization dedicated to fostering industrial research and development (R&D) with the goal of promoting national economic growth and enhancing global collaboration. The Eureka Network brings together enterprises of all sizes—small, medium, and large—alongside research centres, universities, development agencies, and government sectors. This membership enables participants to benefit from a wide range of innovation-focused initiatives and programs.

Eureka was established in 1985 by the European Union in collaboration with 18 countries and the European Commission, aiming to enhance competitiveness, market integration, and R&D activities. Over the years, the network has expanded significantly and now includes 48 member countries, extending beyond EU states to encompass a global reach.

Currently, the Eureka Network is co-chaired by Germany and Canada, with their joint leadership mandate running until June 2025. This governance structure ensures that members continue to collaborate effectively while leveraging the network’s resources to promote innovation.

The signing ceremony for Brazil's accession was held at the Embassy of Canada to Germany in Berlin. The event was attended by distinguished government officials, including Daniel Almeida Filho, Secretary for Technological Development and Innovation at Brazil's Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MCTI), and Stephan Ertner, State Secretary of Germany's Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Within the Eureka Network, Brazil will be represented by the MCTI and the Funding Authority for Studies and Projects (Finep), ensuring its active participation in the network’s initiatives.

With this milestone, Brazil strengthens its commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration on a global scale, opening new opportunities for its research and industrial sectors to connect with international partners.
