Bolivia Promotes Cultural Diplomacy at the Bolivian Book Fair in Berlin
Literature and community take center stage in Berlin, showcasing Bolivia’s vibrant cultural presence in Germany.

On May 23rd, 2025, the Embassy of Bolivia in Germany, in partnership with the independent bookstore Andenbuch, hosted the Bolivian Book Fair and Apthapi Literario in Berlin. This event brought together readers, authors, and cultural promoters from Bolivia and the local community to celebrate Bolivia’s rich literary tradition.
The fair was part of the ongoing cultural cycle “Cielo arriba, cielo abajo: Bolivia,” which ran from February to July 2025 and showcased Bolivian literature through readings, discussions, and the presentation of the Biblioteca del Bicentenario—a collection highlighting important Bolivian literary works.
Several Bolivian authors participated in the fair, some attending in person and others joining virtually, including the well-known writer Giovanna Rivero, who earlier gave a virtual lecture on contemporary Bolivian storytelling.
The event also included the Apthapi Literario, inspired by the Aymara tradition of sharing, which encouraged participants to exchange books, stories, and cultural experiences in a warm, communal atmosphere.
Organizers emphasized the importance of literature as a tool to connect communities abroad and promote Bolivian cultural identity in Berlin. The fair reaffirmed Bolivia’s vibrant presence in the city’s cultural landscape and highlighted the role of independent cultural initiatives supported by the Embassy.
