"Better Together": Celebrating the EU Enlargement
The Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Berlin participated in an event dedicated to the 20th anniversary of EU enlargement
May 14th, 2024On April 29, 2024, the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Berlin participated in an event dedicated to the 20th anniversary of EU enlargement.
Under the motto "Better together", the embassies of the countries that joined the EU on 1 May 2004, together with the embassies of Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania and Belgium and, in cooperation with the European Academy Berlin, the European Movement Germany and the European Commission, celebrated the anniversary. The event took place in the House of Representatives in Berlin. At the European market, opened by Mrs. Cornelia Seibeld, President of the House of Representatives in Berlin and Mr. Florian Hauer, Secretary of State for Europe and Plenipotentiary Representative of Berlin to the Federal Government, Bulgaria presented itself with a stand with information materials, typical Bulgarian dishes and a quiz for our country. A panel discussion on "20 years since the enlargement of the EU to the East" was also organized, which will be broadcast on rbb24 Inforadio. The event was open to the general public and was attended by more than 400 citizens, including many students.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives in Berlin, Ms Cornelia Seibeld, stressed that 1 May 2004 ushered in a new era of growth, cooperation and unity in Europe. Ruling Mayor Kai Wegner has focused on reunifying the continent after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union.
To mark the 20th anniversary of the EU's historic enlargement, the Brandenburg Gate will shine in European colours in the evening hours of 1 May.
