Berlin is Going to Host the Special Olympics: World Game
The biggest and largest inclusive sporting event in the world is going to land in Berlin in 2023, an opportunity of integration throughout the sport and the competition
May 10th, 2023Belin is ready to host the Special Olympics World Summer Games, an event which will gather around 7000 athletes with intellectual or multiple disabilities. Athletes who are ready to compete in 26 disciplines and to donate happiness and healthy sport values.
The event is recognized by the International Olympic Committee and involves more than 5 million athletes all around the world, integrating people with intellectual and multiple disabilities.The main aim of these games is of course the competition but first of all the social participation and support the fight against discrimination.
The event is going to take place in 10 different places in Berlin and the most games are scheduled in the Berlin exhibition grounds: boccia, table tennis, badminton, powerlifting, judo, volleyball, basketball, rhythmic gymnastics, gymnastics, and tennis.The other main place will be the Olympiapark: Futsal, roller skating, athletics, field hockey, handball, soccer, and horseback riding.
The regatta course in Grünau will be the venue for canoeing, open-water swimming, triathlon and rowing competitions. Fans of beach volleyball will head to BeachMitte, while cyclists will race on Straße des 17. The Basketball 3x3 will take place at the Neptune Fountain, also the site of the accompanying festival. Swimming will be held in the swimming and diving hall of the Europasportpark. The sailing competition will take place on Wannsee lake. Other locations are the Bowling World at the East Side Gallery (bowling) and the Golf Club Bad Saarow (golf).
Berlin will be the sports capital of the world from 17th June to 25th June, encouraging integration and the pure sports values.
