Berlin Hosts the Official Launch of the Colombian Health Professionals Network in Germany
Berlin aims Building Bridges for Health and Diaspora Engagement

On May 16th, 2025, the Embassy of Colombia in Berlin hosted the official launch event of the Red Colombiana de Profesionales de la Salud en Alemania (Colombian Health Professionals Network in Germany). This landmark event brought together Colombian health professionals residing in Germany, embassy representatives, and experts in mental health and language education to foster stronger community ties, professional exchange, and collaboration opportunities.
The hybrid event, held both in person at the embassy premises on Taubenstraße and online, featured opening remarks by Ambassador Yadir Salazar Mejía, who emphasized the importance of uniting the Colombian diaspora in Germany to share knowledge and strengthen professional networks. The agenda included seminars focused on mental health challenges facing professionals abroad and practical workshops on improving German language skills—key to better integration and career development.
A highlight of the event was the formal presentation of the Network, a newly created platform aiming to facilitate collaboration among Colombian doctors, nurses, psychologists, and other health workers in Germany. Attendees also participated in networking sessions designed to promote peer support, mentorship, and joint initiatives.
The event attracted a diverse group of participants, including recent migrants and long-established professionals, demonstrating the vibrant and dynamic nature of Colombia’s scientific diaspora. Organizers highlighted that such gatherings not only empower individuals but also strengthen bilateral ties between Colombia and Germany in the health and scientific sectors.
The Embassy’s initiative comes amid growing recognition of the vital role diasporas play in international cooperation and knowledge exchange. By fostering these connections, the Network is expected to contribute to improved healthcare outcomes and innovative practices benefiting both Colombia and Germany.
The launch also provided attendees with resources and contacts for further training, certification recognition, and community support, emphasizing the embassy’s commitment to continuous engagement with its nationals abroad.
For many participants, the event marked a significant step toward building a sustainable, supportive professional community far from home, with ambitions to expand the Network’s reach and influence in coming years.
