On July 2nd and 3rd, 2025, the Embassy of Mexico in Germany, together with the Kulturinstitut Mexiko-Deutschland, will host the cultural event Talk & Walk with Carmen Mariscal. This two-day program brings together artists, cultural practitioners, diplomats, and Berlin’s international community to reflect on the intersections between art, memory, and diplomacy.

The event features a public conference and an artistic walking tour designed by Mexican artist Carmen Mariscal, whose work focuses on exploring the memory of spaces through photography, film, and installation art. Her artistic research particularly delves into the symbolic, historical, and emotional layers embedded within architectural and diplomatic sites.

The program begins on July 2nd with a public conference at the Embassy of Mexico in Berlin (Klingelhöferstraße 3), followed by a guided artistic walk exploring the historical context surrounding the embassy. The following day, on July 3rd at 18:00, a second Talk & Walk will take place at Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße, concluding at the Verein zur Förderung von Kunst und Kultur am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, a cultural space dedicated to fostering contemporary artistic dialogue.

The event explores how diplomatic spaces carry not only political significance but also serve as containers of collective memory and cultural identity. As Carmen Mariscal explains, her work seeks to “uncover the hidden narratives and historical layers that exist within these institutions,” offering participants an opportunity to rethink how spaces shape our understanding of history and diplomacy.

The initiative highlights the growing importance of cultural diplomacy between Mexico and Germany, adding to Berlin’s reputation as a hub for international artistic and diplomatic exchange. Events like Talk & Walk offer a Latin American perspective on issues of historical memory, transcending Eurocentric narratives while fostering intercultural understanding.

Talk & Walk with Carmen Mariscal underscores how cultural and artistic initiatives can complement diplomatic missions, promoting not only bilateral relations but also broader conversations about identity, memory, and shared history.

The event is free and open to the public upon registration, attracting participants interested in art, architecture, cultural diplomacy, and memory studies. It reflects Berlin’s role as a space where art and diplomacy intersect to generate meaningful cross-cultural dialogue.
