Amb. Josseline da Silva Gbony
Amb. Josseline da Silva Gbony was appointed as ambassador of Benin to the Federal Republic of Germany in 2016.
Josseline da Silva Gbony studied diplomacy and international relations at the National University of Administration (ENA) in Benin, where she qualified at the International Institute of Public Administration in Paris.
In 1983, she joined the Benin Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, where she held various posts, including the Directorate Asia, Europe, State Minutes, International Organizations and the Department of Legal Affairs.
From January 2001 to July 2009, she was in the diplomatic service of the Beninese Embassy in Brussels, where, as a Counselor, she was responsible for the important role of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group (ACP Group) relations with the European Union.
When she returned to Benin, she became Head of Programming and Planning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where she headed the Africa and Middle East Directorate three years later, until March 2013. She is married and mother of two children.
The Federal Republic of Germany has maintained uninterrupted diplomatic relations with Benin since 1960. Bilateral relations have been good since the end of Benin’s dictatorship in 1990.
Benin is a partner country of German development cooperation, owing mainly to the country’s recent political development into a liberal democracy. In recent years, there have been a number of high-level visits between the two states.
