The Austrian Cultural Forum London (ACF London) continues its CineClub series with a screening of Michael Haneke’s Early Films: The Rebellion on October 23, 2025, at 7:00 PM. Hosted by the cultural forum of the Austrian Embassy, the event forms part of an autumn season that celebrates Austria’s contributions to world cinema.

Originally produced in 1993 for Austrian television, The Rebellion adapts Joseph Roth’s novel and follows a war veteran struggling for dignity and survival in a hostile society. Recently restored with the support of Les Films du Losange and the Austrian Film Institute, the screening offers London audiences the rare chance to encounter Haneke’s early work in its full visual depth.

The embassy’s cultural forum frames this screening as more than an act of cinema—it is an exercise in cultural diplomacy. By presenting Austrian film heritage to international audiences, the embassy fosters dialogue on history, authority, and the human condition, themes that resonate across borders.

In providing such programming, ACF London underscores Austria’s belief that cinema is not only entertainment but also a diplomatic tool, a way to bring societies into conversation through storytelling and shared reflection.
