AFRIKA KOMMT Program Supported by GIZ and the President of Germany is Open for Applications for Participation in the Fifth Session 2015 - 2017
January 18th, 2016The German development agency GIZ with valuable contributions from the German Federal Foreign Office and the German embassies in Sub-Saharan Africa organize the fifth training session to take place in Berlin. The program is designed for university students and also for postgraduate women and men, who are younger than 35. The AFRIKA KOMMT! is a fellowship program, involving nine-months of practical training in Berlin, where the trainee has the possibility to work alongside nineteen well known German companies such as BOSCH, Daimler or COMMERZBANK. The application period if one is interested in applying is from 10th December 2015 until 10th February 2016. The course is supported by the Federal President of Germany, Joachim Gauck and begins in centers in Nairobi and Kenya, which will take place in April 2016. Afterwards it continues with an official welcoming at the President´s Office in August.
The fellowship “AFRIKA KOMMT!” also includes a three month intensive German language course, a one year stay in Germany, where the applicants are supported with an allowance. As a result of staying in Germany for one year, the applicants will have possibility to apply for internships in German partner companies, and attend “Regional Economic Development” seminars and also seminars about cultural and social subjects supported by the Robert Bosch Stiftung and the ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius and organized by GIZ. This project is designed to serve as a traineeship, where the candidate can improve language (English and German) and communication skills. The aim of course is also to build professional skills and personal attributes.
The candidate then returns to her/his home country after one year, where they can continue with networking and become involved in German´s company cooperation in Africa. Germany’s industry and business leaders have already recognized that Africa has great potential and the possibilities for future economic cooperation are expanding. This year’s session is already the fifth time the project happen. It begun in 2008, where 20 people, from Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, Rwanda, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Ivory Coast and Namibia came to Germany for a year. Having been a success in the past four years it is hoped that 2016 will be as successful and help to deepen relations between Germany and Africa both in economic and cultural fields.
