Manuel Domingos Augusto was born on September 2nd 1957 in Luanda, and is the current Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Angola.
He studied in Angola and worked as a journalist between 1976 and 1982. He began his career in politics in 1982 when he worked for the Secretary of Cooperation specializing in ‘Western Affairs’. He continued this specialized path in 1988 when he worked as the senior advisor to the Ministry of Commerce in the department of ‘Western Countries’. He worked as the Angolan Ambassador to Nigeria between 1988 and 1992, as the leader to the diplomatic Mission to South Africa between 1992 and 1994, and as the Ambassador to Zambia between 1994 and 1999. In 1999 he returned to Angola and began working in internal policy as the Vice Minister of Social Communication until 2005. At that point he returned to foreign policy and became the ambassador of Angola to Ethiopia and simultaneously Angola’s representative to the African Union in Addis Ababa. In 2010 he was given the title of Minister of External Relations, which he was given again in 2017 as a member of the central government. Manuel Domingos Augusto speaks Portuguese, English, French and Spanish according the Ministry of External Relations of the Republic of Angola.
