Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus, Maria Papakyriakou Visits Berlinale to Celebrate Cypriot Cinema

On 18th February 2026, on the occasion of the 76th Berlinale, Ambassador of Cyprus in Berlin Maria Papakyriakou, visited the European Film Market, where the Cypriot stand was inaugurated at the Gropius Building in Berlin. The stand welcomed representatives from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Cyprus, including Elena Christodoulidou and Marios Psaras, alongside filmmakers and industry professionals. The visit provided an opportunity to showcase Cypriot cinema and highlight the country’s growing presence on the international film stage.

The Cypriot stand at the European Film Market served as a platform to present the nation’s cinematic achievements and foster connections with the international film community. Ambassador Papakyriakou engaged with attendees, underscoring the importance of promoting Cypriot cinema and supporting the creative talent behind it, who work with dedication and passion to bring the country’s stories, in the eyes of a global audience.

Later, at a networking event organized by the Cyprus Film Commission under the auspices of the Embassy at Hotel Adlon-Kempinski in central Berlin, Ambassador Papakyriakou met with filmmakers and representatives of the film industry. The gathering offered an opportunity for dialogue, collaboration, and recognition of the professionals who contribute to the country’s cinematic landscape, both on-screen and behind the scenes.

The events during Berlinale 2026, highlighted the rise of Cypriot cinema and its growing international visibility.
