April 20th, 2016“Afropolitan Berlin” is the name of the project organized by Forum Brazil in Berlin and carried out as well with the help of the Senatsverwaltung für Arbeit, Integration und Frauen (Senate Administration of Labour, Integration and Women).
The workshop, which is held at Forum Brasil, will take place during the course of four weekends starting on the 30th of April and finishing on the 17th of July. The main intention of this workshop is to make all participants live and experience the nature belonging to the African-Brazilian music. The tones of this type of music are influenced by nice rhythms created by a variety of musical instruments such as the conga drum or the agbe amongst others. The workshop content is based on teaching how to use these instruments and how to be aware of different techniques to play them.
The content also involves the teaching of the history of rhythms, the history of instruments, corporal percussion, motor coordination, implementation of measures, group dynamic, polyrhythmic and beyond. The tutor of this workshop is Fabiano Lima who was born in Pernambuco, which is located in the Northwest of Brazil. Since his childhood he was amazed by the cultural influences of his surrounding, therefore he started to be involved in Candomblé, which is a type of Brazilian music.
