The Ambassador warmly welcomed the guests to the Embassy with an engaging and insightful speech on the significance of culture and the unique role that cuisine plays in promoting it. Her Excellency shared an evocative example from Malaysia, explaining how, since the aftermath of the civil war, it has become customary to ask, "Have you eaten today?" as a greeting, a gesture that reflects the country’s deep-rooted values of hospitality and care. This phrase, often followed by an offer of food, symbolizes a cultural emphasis on ensuring others are well-nourished and cared for. Following her enlightening remarks on the cultural importance of food, the Ambassador took a moment to recognize and express gratitude to the Institute of Cultural Diplomacy for its contributions to fostering international cultural exchange. She awarded its director, Mark Donfried, with a certificate, acknowledging his and the Institute's dedication to cultural diplomacy and its positive impact on cross-cultural understanding.
