On Europe Day, a group of visiting young Irish political representatives were invited by the embassy of Ireland in Berlin.

On the 9th, the group had the opportunity to meet Professor Philip R. Lane, Member of the ECB Executive Board, to discuss current economic issues. The visit had started on May 8th, with a day of exchange and discussion. The following day of their stay in Berlin, the delegation visited the Bundestag and the Bavarian representation for an insight into the German political system.

Europe Day is celebrated on May 9th every year to commemorate the historic moment in 1950 when French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman delivered a declaration proposing the creation of a united Europe. This proposal, known as the Schuman Declaration, was the first step towards the formation of the European Union (EU) as we know it today. This day is celebrated across Europe as a symbol of peace, unity, and solidarity among its member states. It is an opportunity for Europeans to come together and celebrate the shared values, diversity, and cultural richness of the continent.

The EU has undergone significant changes since its inception, and Europe Day is an occasion to reflect on the progress made so far and the challenges that lie ahead. It is a day to reaffirm the commitment to building a stronger, more united, and more prosperous Europe, a Europe that is committed to the principles of democracy, freedom, and human rights.
