4th Portuguese-German Journalism Award
Ambassador Francisco Ribeiro de Menezes joined the award ceremony recognizing outstanding journalism between Germany and Portugal
May 07th, 2024On May 3, World Press Freedom Day, the award ceremony for the 4th edition of the Portuguese-German Journalism Award took place in the gallery of the Portuguese Embassy in Berlin. The Ambassador of Portugal to Berlin Francisco Ribeiro de Menezes was also in attendance at the ceremony. In 2024, awards in the categories of Print/Digital, Audio/Podcast and Video/Multimedia were given to journalists from Germany and Portugal.
The award ceremony, presented by jury members Fatima Lopes Cardoso (Escola Superior de Comunicação Social) e Sabine Kieselbach (DW News) was followed by a conversation among the winners, moderated by Constantin Ostermann von Roth, President of the Association of Saint Bartolomew of the Germans in Lisbon. In the afternoon, a visit to the facilities of the Axel Springer publishing house also took place.
The prize distinguished the best journalistic works published in Portugal and Germany about the other country, with the aim of contributing to mutual understanding between the two countries, strengthening the bilateral relationship and promoting the importance of independent and professional journalism, one of the foundations of our democracies.
The German-Portuguese Journalism Prize is an initiative of the Bartholomew Brotherhood of the Germans in Lisbon, coordinated by the Goethe Institute Portugal, in cooperation with Camões Berlin, the German Centre for Tourism in Portugal, TAP Air Portugal and the Portuguese Tourism Office in Germany and the Pestana Berlin Hotel. It is supported by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Lisbon and the Embassy of Portugal in Berlin.
