Greek Embassy to Germany celebrates the World Greek Language day

On the 14th of February, the Embassy of Greece to Germany honored the World Greek Language Day in cooperation with the Berlin Free University’s ‘’Center for Modern Greece (CeMoG)’’ at the North Rhine Westphalia representative office in Berlin. Professor Dr. Norbert Lammert, President of the Konrad- Adenauer Foundation and former Speaker of the German Parliament and Ambassador Daskarolis, gave speeches on ‘’The Contribution of the Greek Language to European Integration’’.

Immediately following the speeches, a discussion was held on the topic of  ‘’Learning Greek and their Studying: Humanistic Studies in Germany’’ in which distinguished personalities participated: The Classical Professor of the Free University of Berlin, Dr. Gyburg Uhlmann, whose research for Plato was awarded in 2006 with the Liebnitz Prize of the German National Research Foundation, the Professor of the Aristostle University of Thessaloniki and the regular Member of the Academy of Athens, Mr. Antonios Regakos and Professor Dr. Bernhard Zimmermann, University Albert- Ludwigs in Freiburg and Honorary Doctor of the Aristostle University of Thessaloniki.

The moderator of the discussion was Professor of the Modern Greek Literature Chair of the Free University of Berlin and Director of the “Center for Modern Greece’’ Miltos Pehlivanos. The event was attended by more than 100 people, including the Federal Deputy Minister of Education and Research, Thomas Rachel, representatives of the European Commission, members of the German Foreign Ministry and academics.
