The Czech Center Berlin invites students to their fourth translation workshop, which will focus on the translation of contemporary lyrics. The two-day event will introduce students to current Czech poetry and the nuances of poetry translation.

Kathrin Janka and Martina Lisa, who professionally translate prose works from Czech into German, will lead this workshop. They collaborated in 2018 as translators for the German-Czech project VersSchmuggel – Překladiště, which was created by the Berlin House of Poetry.

The eligibility requirements for this workshop include advanced knowledge of the Czech language, with practical experience in translation welcomed. After a confirmation of their acceptance, all participants will receive a detailed program and a small translation task in September to prepare for the workshop in Berlin.

Participation is free; however, there is only space for 5-10 participants. The Center will reimburse travel costs up to 80 euros with a presentation of the transportation ticket. This workshop is possible with the support of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Berlin and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.

To apply, please send your application materials to ccberlin@czech.cz. You will receive a confirmation of receipt.

The two-day workshop will take place on October 11, 2019 from 14:00-18:00 and October 12, 2019 from 10:00-18:00 at the Czech Center Berlin (Wilhelmstraße 44 / entrance Mohrenstraße, 10117 Berlin).
