Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen, Interior Minister Horst Seehofer, and Ambassador Peter Huber welcomed vice-chancellor and finance minister Olaf Scholz as guest speaker at the traditional working lunch hosted by Austrian embassy in Berlin.

Olaf Scholz has served as Vice Chancellor and Minister of Finance of the Federal Republic of Germany since March 14, 2018. Scholz was a member of the German Bundestag from 1998 to 2001 and from 2002 to 10 March 2011. In the committee of inquiry on visa affairs, he was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. He had previously co- negotiated the coalition agreement for the SPD and in the member vote as acting party leader successfully campaigned for the approval of the SPD base to the Grand Coalition (GroKo).

Vice-Chancellor Scholz addressed in his speech Germany's most important positions in European fiscal policy in his presentation to numerous European ambassadors. The results of the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN), which took place in Brussels this week, were also discussed. The meeting was rounded off by a lively exchange of ideas between Vice Chancellor Scholz and the interested guests.
