The Polish Institute celebrates Design Art
Polish Design and multicultural Design meet in a very innovative exhibitionJuly 07th, 2017
The Polish Institute of Berlin organizes an exhibition called “LET’S POLISH!” on Design Art that involves six Polish artists living all around Europe. This original idea permits to compare and confront the different approaches on Design of several Polish expatriates.
The Polish Institute of Berlin invited three design studios to participate to the exhibition, all having a Polish origin but based abroad: Chmara Rosinke from Vienna, Marta Bakowski from Paris and Maria Jenglinska from London.
Moreover, these studios had the freedom to suggest each one other participant. Chmara Rosinke invited Kosmos Project from Warsaw, Maria Jeglinska suggested Krzysztof Pyda from Berlin, and Marta Bakowski chose Jan Hendzel from London.
All these artists from different background but sharing Polish roots make the exhibition a unique “polish melting pot”. Indeed, they all have been exposed to different cultures. It is particularly interesting to observe how young designers both knowingly and unknowingly deal with their roots as well as with various new identities.
These six design studios work both in an experimental and in a commercial space. They all are internationally renowned and successful. Even though this exhibition was meant to show different “Polish” designers, it won’t give any straightforward answer to what defines Polish design. Instead, the exhibition offers us an overview on how Design Art can be approached so differently by people of the same nationality.
The concept of the exhibition is very representative of the current globalised world we live in. We can no more grasp one single national design language as we stand up in times of social and cultural exchange. In fact, every single person has multiple identities that is continually in development.

Design aus London, Paris, Wien, Berlin und Warschau” is held at the Polish Institute of Berlin from the 13th of July to the 17th of July (Gallery opening hours: Tuesday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.).
