The Annual Meeting of the German-Russian Forum in Berlin, 2019

Another year of facilitating and promoting the Russian-German inter- dialogue cooperation is celebrated

On March 18th, the annual meeting of the members of the German-Russian Forum (GRF) was held in Berlin. The traditional general ceremonial meeting of the GRF was opened by the Chairman of the Board of the GRF M.Platzec.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Germany S.Yu.Nechaev praised the activities of the GRF in promoting the Russian-German inter-social dialogue, economic cooperation, cultural, humanitarian and educational ties. During the last years, the Russian-German regional-municipal partnerships resulted in the establishment of new relations at various levels between cities and regions of the two countries, notably the implementation of hundreds of joint projects in the field of housing and communal services and municipal management, urban development and transport, culture and education, sports and youth exchanges, as well as charitable activities. The ambassador expressed the hope that the existing difficulties of political nature, caused by the Western sanctions policy towards Russia will be overcome through the dynamics of inter-social relations and economic cooperation, one of the main projects being Nord Stream 2.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Germany S.Yu.Nechaev, and the Special Representative of the President of Russia for International Cultural Cooperation participating in the meeting, M.E.Shvydkoy,  awarded one of the founders of the GRF, A. Mayer-Landrut, on the occasion of his 90th birthday. In his reply, A. Mayer-Landrut noted the need for further efforts to promote the Russian-German dialogue and to involve more representatives of the younger generation of the two countries.

The keynote speech at this meeting was delivered by the special guest of the GRF, the Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia A. Lashat, who showed gratitude for the long-standing traditions of cooperation between Germany and Russia and called for greater economic cooperation, wishing a successful implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project.
